Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-Nippo) has taken the victory of the fourth stage in the Tour de Suisse, Mathieu van der Poel maintains the lead of the General Classification.

The 171-kilometre route took the riders between Sankt Urban and Gstaad over a rolling profile that featured a second category climb close to the finish. It was a rainy day and the breakaway that made it to the end included riders like Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-Nippo), Benjamin Thomas (Groupama-FDJ) and Joey Rosskopf (Rally Cycling).

The escape created a gap of more than seven minutes with the pack, and although the weather was rainy and there was some wind, Movistar and Cofidis took the lead but soon gave up as the front men weren't getting any closer or were a danger for the GC aspirations.

The final sprint was fought among the three men in front, and Bissegger got his revenge in his homeland after he almost won the first stage of the Swiss race but got beaten by his fellow countryman Stefan Küng by four seconds. Thomas was second and Rosskopf crossed the finish line in the third position.

Van der Poel arrived with the pack a bit more than five minutes after the winner of the stage and has kept the lead of the General Classification. Julian Alaphilippe sits in the second overall position, one second behind the Dutch national champion, and Küng is third at four seconds from the leader.
