Deceuninck-Quick-Step has announced that Sam Bennett is not going to start at the Tour of Belgium as it was expected.

The Irishman was supposed to be at the start line of the Belgian race, being part of the team that is set to be led by Remco Evenepoel. The most successful sprinter of the peloton of the season so far, with seven victories, is suffering from pain and will be replaced by Mark Cavendish.

"Following a small incident in training last weekend, Sam Bennett has incurred a problem with his right knee," said Deceuninck-Quick-Step through a statement. "After consultation with our medical team, it has been decided that he will not start this week’s Belgium Tour and will instead take some rest ahead of the Tour de France."

Evenepoel will make his return to the race in which he took the first GC victory of his career, becoming the youngest rider ever to do so in the Belgian competition. Now the rider will make his return to racing there, after having to withdraw from the Giro d'Italia.

Deceuninck-Quick-Step's roster for the Tour of Belgium (June 9-13):

Yves Lampaert
Remco Evenepoel
Michael Morkov
Mark Cavendish
Zdenek Stybar
