Bora-hanshgrohe's Lukas Pöstlberger has taken the win of the second stage at the Criterium du Dauphine after launching an attack on the last stretch of the route.

The route of the second day in the French race was again over a rolling course from Brioude to Saugues and was 168.8 kilometres long. The breakaway was formed early on the day and included Pöstlberger, Anthony Delaplace, Matthew Holmes, Shane Archbold and Rob Power.

Although the pack got closer to the escapees during the first climb of the day, they managed to accelerate and maintain a gap of more than three minutes. With 35 kilometres to go, the Austrian of Bora-hansgrohe and Archbold moved away from their companions and Pöstlberger change his rhythm with 18 kilometres to go.

The rider managed to maintain a gap and crossed the finish line 11 seconds ahead of Sonny Colbrelli. The leader of the General Classification after the first stage Brent Van Moer couldn't keep up with the speeds during the climbs and gave away the Yellow Jersey to the winner of the second stage.
