Trek-Segafredo has announced the signing of Italian rider Dario Cataldo for one season.
The team has announced the addition of the 36-year-old to its roster, bringing his experience to the formation. The rider will be the 31st rider for the upcoming season and the 11th new arrival.
Trek-Segafredo will be the sixth team for Cataldo after Liquigas, Quick-Step, Astana and Movistar. He has been dedicated to professional cycling for more than fifteen years, in which he has been an important part of the rosters in 23 Grand Tours.
The Italian has achieved eleven individual victories throughout his career, including the time trial championship of his country, a stage in the Giro d'Italia and another one in the Vuelta a España.
"I join Trek-Segafredo after several years in which I have consolidated my position as road captain and reliable domestique," said Cataldo. "It is a role in which I see myself fitting well, thanks to the experience gained in great teams and alongside strong leaders. I believe that my many years as a pro-rider are an added value in a group. The management of the race, peloton dynamics and the group harmony between different personalities are key factors in a race. We'll have time and chance to discuss specific goals and programs at the team camp, but I already can't wait to start.
"I definitely approach this new experience with great enthusiasm. I know I'm joining a solid and well-equipped group, that has always shown competence and vision. I have known Luca since a long time, we worked together for two years in Quick-Step. I have great respect for him, both as a man and as a manager. When we spoke, he gave me great confidence in the Trek-Segafredo project. The idea of paying it back will be one of my biggest incentives.
"In Trek-Segafredo I will also find a friend and training partner, a fellow countryman from Abruzzo, Giulio Ciccone. I saw him become a cyclist in the same team where I started riding, my father was one of his first coaches. We know each other well, and it will be a pleasure to ride in the same team now in a key moment of his career."
