Julia Soek (Team DSM) has announced her retirement from professional cycling at the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old has been in the professional peloton for 13 years, eight of which she was in Team DSM and the teams the formation was before. The Dutchwoman evolved to be an outstanding lead-out woman and an important domestique that controlled the breakaways and didn't have a problem with pulling the pack in the last kilometres.

Soek's role with time was also the one of the experienced rider that guided the newcomers to the professional ranks and to the team. In her time in the formation, she has been part of 45 victories so far, and she has the goal of adding some more to them in the races that are left of this season.

"2021 will be my last season as a professional cyclist, and what a journey it has been!" commented Soek. "I want to thank everyone who was involved in the process throughout my career – this is a great team that I have been proud to have been a part of. We achieved some really cool things as Team DSM, and I’ve made memories that will stay with me forever. I got the opportunity to develop myself as a rider and as a person here, and I am really pleased about that.

"I’m able to look back on my career with a big smile, but now it’s time for a new challenge, and I’m excited for what’s next. Saying goodbye is of course sad, but I’ll definitely always be a friend of the team and be interested in how they are doing at the races, but I am looking forward to saying hello to a new adventure away from the bike!"
