David de la Cruz to lead UAE Team Emirates GC aspirations at Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var

David de la Cruz (UAE-Team Emirates) is set to start his 2021 season at the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var.
The Spaniard will kick off his 2021 season at the French 2.1. competition and he will be in charge of carrying the formation's General Classification aspirations while Rui Costa will fight to take a stage win, along with the South African champion Ryan Gibbons.
"We have three intense stages with lots of climbing and fierce competition also," said De la Cruz. "On paper we have a balanced team with options for the GC with myself and the chance of stage opportunities through Gibbons and Costa.
"Preparations have gone well. This race will be part of my build-up to Paris-Nice and Volta Catalunya. I've had a good block of training at altitude at Mount Teide with the team and I'm excited to finally pin the race numbers on again and get the 2021 season started."
