Jumbo-Visma's Wout Van Aert has taken the title at the Belgian cyclocross championship.
The rider started in the race in the West Flemish Meulebeke as one of the favourites. After a fast start, he slowly started building a gap and by the third round he already had created a good distance with the defending champion Laurens Sweeck.
Van Aert built a gap of 25 seconds with his main rivals and maintained until the end, taking like this the fourth national title of his career in the discipline. He dedicated his victory to his wife Sarah and their son Georges, who was born earlier on the week.
"I went pretty deep for it. I did not want to say it before the race, but actually, I barely slept for six nights," said the newly crowned Belgian cyclocross national champion. "I did not have the energy I wanted to have, but I am very happy with this title. I would like to dedicate this victory to my son Georges and my wife Sarah."
