Ineos-Grenadiers' Jhonatan Narvaez has taken the victory of the twelfth stage of the Giro d'Italia after escaping from the escapees in the last part of the route. Joao Almeida remains on top of the General Classification.

A rolling route of 204 kilometres that featured two climbs of the fourth category and three of the third category -with a start and finish in Cesenatico, welcomed the peloton on the twelve stage of the Italian grand tour. The escape of the day included riders like Simon Pellaud, Mark Padun, Joey Rosskopf, Simon Clarke and Jhonatan Narvaez, among others and it created a gap of more than 12 minutes with the pack.

The hard rainy weather and the challenges of the climbs slimmed the front group -and also the pack- until only seven riders remained. Padun launched an attack and was joined by Narvaez, and with 23 kilometres to go, the Ecuadorian left his companion behind and continued at a good pace until he took a solo victory, the fifth one in the race for his country.

Meanwhile, Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Joao Almeida finished the stage with the peloton and remained of top of the General Classification for another day.
