Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) has taken his third victory in the 2020 Giro d'Italia by winning the final sprint on the seventh stage of the race.

The seventh stage of the Italian grand tour took the riders over a 143-kilometre rolling route that was suitable for a fast finale. The escape of the day had some usual suspects like Simon Pellaud and Thomas De Gendt and soon after the start the peloton also had some breaks caused by the wind and the speed and while all the wearers of the special jerseys were in front, GC favourites like Jakob Fuglsang were left behind -and this group had a bigger delay after a crash.

But with 74 kilometres to go, the two groups joined while Pellaud and Frapporti remained in front, but ten kilometres later they were also reeled back in. At the 45 kilometre banner, there was a new crash that held some of the favourites, but things came back together kilometres after.

During the last 10 kilometres, teams like Bora-hansgrohe, Groupama-FDJ and Deceuninck-Quick-Step took the front of the pack to prepare the field for a final sprint. The French team did once again a good job for a very strong Arnaud Démare, who took his third victory in this edition of the race, while Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) and Michael Matthews (Sunweb) finished in the second and third positions respectively.

Almeida finished the stage with the peloton and retains the lead of the General Classification for one more stage.
