UAE Team Emirates is set to start in the first Monument of the season, Milano-Sanremo, with a very competitive roster.

The riders will face a 300-kilometre race, the longest one of the calendar, on hotter conditions than the normal edition because its position is on the Spring, unlike the middle of the summer of 2020, a position it got after the reorganization forced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Emirati team will start in La Primavera with three classic riders/sprinters that could fight for the victory in case of a fast finish after surviving the climbs of the day, and two climbers that could try to attack on the famous last climb of the Poggio and attempt a solo win.

Max Richeze, Alexander Kristoff and Fernando Gaviria -who showed to be in great shape at the Vuelta a Burgos- will be the men for the fast finale while Tadej Pogacar and Davide Formolo will be the men for the climbs. "The victory in Burgos was a great boost for both the team and for my confidence and shows my condition is good," said the Colombian rider.

"We expect a bigger challenge at Milan-San Remo and the competition will be strong. this is one of my favourite races and if it finishes in a sprint I know I can be one of the favourites."

Fabio Aru and Diego Ulissi will be the leaders of UAE Team Emirates at the one-day classic Gran Piemonte on Wednesday, August 18.
