The Tour of Pologne organisation has announced that Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) has awakened from the coma he was in after the crash of the race's first stage.

The Dutch national champion was kept in a coma after the serious crash he suffered during the first stage of the Polish race. The rider underwent facial surgery and was kept in a coma to allow him to recover from the injuries he suffered.

Although the doctors were set to attempt to wake him up the day before, further assessments pushed it for a day later. The organisation of the Tour de Pologne has now announced that the Sosnowiec hospital informed them that Jakobsen has awakened successfully from it and is in stable condition.
