CCC Team's Greg Van Avermaet has decided to do altitude training just before the restart of the season just like he did in February.

The Olympic champion is already preparing for the rest of the season after the cycling calendar had to be suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Just like he did at the start of 2020, the Belgian rider will do altitude training before facing his first race of this revamped season: Strade Bianche.

Van Avermaet told the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad that he will go to Livigno, in the Italian Alps, to prepare for the remaining races of the calendar. "It is a deliberate decision to do altitude training so shortly before the restart of the season," said the winner of races like Paris-Roubaix and the road race of the 2016 Olympic Games.

"The intention is to go by car from Livigno to Siena, so I save a plane trip and I will stay in Italy a longer period for the coronavirus measures."

The rider and the teammates that will support him in the Italian race -which will be held on the first of August 2020. The altitude training in Livigno is set to be from the 14th to the 30th of July.
