The crisis of the coronavirus has affected the world of sports -and cycling- and the latest affected event was the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020, which was postponed until 2021.

Jumbo-Visma's Tom Dumoulin had the Olympics as one of the goals of the season and now he -and everyone else- has clarity about what is to come when it's about the Games. The Dutchman got the silver medal in the time trial of Rio de Janeiro 2016 and was building his season towards Tokyo 2020 and has shown his disappointment and understanding of the situation.

"It’s understandable that the Olympics are being postponed and it’s good that a decision has already been made at this stage," said the winner of the 2017 Giro d'Italia. "This provides clarity.

"It’s too bad for me and many other athletes, but I suppose and I hope that we can look forward to the Olympics in the next year. At this moment, there are more important things in the world than sports."
