The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to consider all the scenarios related to the 2020 Olympics and the coronavirus crisis to take a decision about the planning of the games within the next four weeks.

After several National Federations have asked the IOC to postpone the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020 due to the current situation of the Covid-19 and the changing of the lives of athletes and organisation, the Executive Board has announced that it will consider all the options, including to celebrate them in a different date.

The board will host discussions with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Japanese authorities and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to assess the current health situation all over the world and come up with plans that will satisfy the needs of all the parties involved.

"Human lives take precedence over everything, including the staging of the Games," said IOC President Thomas Bach. "The IOC wants to be part of the solution. Therefore we have made it our leading principle to safeguard the health of everyone involved, and to contribute to containing the virus.

"I wish, and we all are working for this, that the hope so many athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs) from all five continents have expressed will be fulfilled: that at the end of this dark tunnel we are all going through together, not knowing how long it is, the Olympic flame will be a light at the end of this tunnel."

The cycling events at the Olympics of Tokyo 2020 were going to take place between the 25th and the 29th of July: The men's road race was to be held on the 25th, the women's road race on the 26th, and both time trials on the 29th.
