The organisation of Itzulia Basque Country has decided to postpone the 2020 edition of the race following the measures taken in the world and by the UCI due to the coronavirus.

The race -also known as the Vuelta al País Vasco- was set to be held between the 6th and the 11th of April and its organisation will follow the guidelines set by the local and the national government of Spain to avoid the spread of the Covid-19, deciding as such to adjourn the competition.

The organisation of the Itzulia has already asked the UCI for new dates later in the calendar. "We have done the impossible to keep going with the race," said Julian Eraso, president of the organisation. "We presented to the authorities the anti-coronavirus protocol that we were going to apply. They were very strict measures with temperature controls to the organisation and the cyclists, closed zones at the start and finish, disinfection of all zones, etc."

"Despite this, and given the very serious situation we are living and seeing the latest developments, we believe the responsible thing to do is to postpone the race to maintain the safety of everybody involved in the race, the fans and the society in general. Security and responsibility above it all."

Itzulia also announced that the 2021 edition of the race will take place from the fifth to the 10th of April.
