The organisation of the Tour of the Alps has decided to postpone the 44th edition of the race.

The Euro-regional stage race was set to be held between the 20th and the 24th of April, but the organisation acknowledges that it will be impossible to continue as planned. "It is very hard for us, as for many other organizers dealing with the same issues," said Giacomo Santini, President of GS Alto Garda -organizing company of the race. "But we all are clearly going through a unique and very serious juncture, in which public health and safety must come before and above any other consideration."

The three involved territorial sponsors -Trentino Marketing, IDM Südtirol and Tirol Werbung- have agreed to evaluate the opportunity of requesting a postpoment in the 2020 calendar. "Reducing the risk for the populations and returning to normality as soon as possible shall be regarded as priorities over everything else," explained Santini.

"When, hopefully soon, sports events will be cleared to resume, we will verify with the UCI whether the conditions are there for the event to be held on new dates, according to its technical status and all the needed safety measures."
