Mitchelton-Scott's Jack Haig has lived special moments at the start of his 2020 season at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana by wearing the leader's jersey for one stage and finishing in second place of the overall standings.

Haig finished in the 12th position of the third stage at the Spanish race, which made him climb to the top of the General Classification. The rider took the yellow jersey in Torrevieja and wore it during the Queen Stage of the competition, where he finished in the fifth place and dropped one spot in the overall standings.

The Australian finished in second place of the race just behind its winner Tadej Pogacar, and he is pleased by his performance. Haig talked briefly with CyclingPub.com after the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and shared his experience in the race.

"It is very nice to finish the race and have confidence going into the season," said the rider. "It is only my first race of the season and to do well will hopefully set me up for a really good rest of the year."

Haig fought hard during the Queen stage of the competition at the final climb on the Sierra de Bernia, but couldn't defend his yellow jersey. "I was not disappointed, I gave my best and Pogacar was just better," the rider explained. "The best rider here won the race and to be second I'm still incredibly happy."

Haig is one of the most recognizable riders of the peloton, not only due to his height (1.90 m) but because he's always smiling, and he has an easy explanation for this. "I'm happy," he affirmed. "I enjoy what I do and I'm happy. I'm always happy and I enjoy cycling and I have fun."
