Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio has taken the victory at the time trial of the South African championships for the fifth time.

The CCC-Liv rider completed the 20-kilometre course in the Swadini Forever Resort in 28 minutes and 24 seconds. Moolman-Pasio was almost one minute faster than the rider who set the second best time: Bizkaia Durango's Carla Oberholzer.

Frances Janse Van Rensburg finished in the third position of the competition, stopping the clock two minutes and 17 seconds slower than the winner of the fight against the clock.

"The plan was to have a quick start, because the road went slightly uphill there," said Moolman-Pasio. "Soon after, I had my eyes on Carla Oberholzer, she was like a rabbit for me, a point of reference.

"After the turning point I surpassed her. I realised then that I had given quite a lot under these warm conditions. I continued to give everything I had in me and am very happy with this success."

The individual time trial South African champion will also start at the road race of the national championships next Saturday to attempt to defend her title.
