Remco Evenepoel has taken the overall win at the Vuelta a San Juan, his first race of the season. Fernando Gaviria took his third stage victory in the current edition of the competition.

The last stage of the Argentinian race was set to be for the fast men, so Deceuninck-Quick-Step's work was to protect Evenepoel until the 15-kilometre mark -where the times of the General Classification were being neutralised- and then try to put Alvaro Hodeg in a good position for the final sprint.

The escape of the flat stage was formed within the first 15 kilometres and included names like Nathan Brown, Riccardo Marchesini, and Daniel Lucero, among others. Deceuninck-Quick-Step took control of the pace of the pack for most of the day in order to force a bunch sprint.

Despite the good work of the Belgian team, Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) launched a strong final sprint that nobody could match. Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) and Hodeg crossed the finish line just after the Colombian.

Filippo Ganna (Italy) and Oscar Sevilla (Team Medellin) stepped on the second and third positions of the overall podium behind Evenepoel.
