Caja Rural-Seguros RGA's Sergio Pardilla has announced his retirement at the end of the current season.

The Spaniard has decided to put an end to his 14-year career in which he took victories in races like the Vuelta a la Comunidad de Madrid, the Tour of Japan and the Tour de Pyrenees, as well as top-five placements in races like the Vuelta a Burgos, the Tour de Langwaki, the Tour de l'Ain and the Vuelta a Asturias.

"The head and the body are asking me to stop," said Pardilla to Spanish site Lanzadigital
. "This year has been difficult for me, I couldn't recover completely of the deep vein thrombosis that I suffered, and also in January, I will become a father.

"I've known a lot of the world and many people. I've had many experiences and a lot of fond memories as a cyclist because the bad ones I forget easily. I would choose to do all this all over again."

The 35-year-old finished his career in Caja Rural-Seguros RGA and before that he has been in formations like Movistar and MTN-Qhubeka. Pardilla had already taken the decision to retire at the end of the season but his health issues forced him to do it sooner than expected.
