Australian rider Zak Dempster has announced his retirement as a professional cyclist but he will work in his last team, Israel Cycling Academy, in a managerial role.

After 15 years of career as a cyclist, in which he achieved good results in races like Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic, Tesco Rutland-Melton International Cycle Classic, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, the Ronde van Drenthe and the Danilith Nokere Koerse among others- the Australian has decided to hang his bike.

"To be honest, I am happy it's over and I certainly will not miss the suffering," the 32-year-old commented. "Cycling is such a hard sport, there’s no way to be a professional without pushing yourself to the absolute limit.

"I’m so glad and grateful I got the chance to do it for so many years but I’m so happy it’s over now and I can do it for fun on Saturday mornings when I feel like it."

But Dempster will not be leaving cycling as he will be taking on a Managerial role at Israel Cycling Academy after completing his level 3 UCI coach course -which will be followed soon by the DS qualification. "I am so happy to be staying in the Israel Cycling Academy structure, I’ve felt more at home here than anywhere my whole career so I can’t think of a better place to take the next step in my career."
