Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic has taken the win of the Tre Valli Varesine with a strong acceleration at the last metres.

Just days after winning the Giro dell'Emilia, Roglic took the win of the Italian race. Astana's Luis León Sánchez launched an attack in the last metres of the race and behind him, the chasing group and the peloton got closer.

But at the last lap, a race motorcycle took a wrong exit in a roundabout and most of the chasers followed it, leaving the race to be contested by the peloton. Sánchez was caught in the last kilometre and a final attack by the Slovenian of Jumbo-Visma gave him the victory, while Giovanni Visconti (Neri Sottoli-Selle Italia) and Toms Skujins (Trek-Segafredo) took the other two positions of the podium.

"In the end, I was lucky that the leading group took the wrong turn," said Roglic at the end of the stage. "Otherwise I would not have been able to win. It was a difficult race and a tough final. I have to compliment the whole team again. We controlled the race all day and took the initiative in the final.

"When Sanchez was reeled in, I attacked and gave all I had. Luckily, it was enough to take the win. This is a great season for me and the team and we hope to take our form into the Giro di Lombardia."
