Argentina's Max Richeze has taken the win of the road race at the Pan American Games of Lima 2019.

The rider of Deceuninck-Quick-Step started in the race after finishing a successful Tour de France with Deceuninck-Quick-Step. The race of the Pan American games was 177 kilometres long in the Circuito de Playas de Costa Verde.

A group of nine escaped early in the race and they were reeled back in before a new group of six managed to break free. They seemed to have enough time to fight for the victory but Richeze attacked in the final lap from the pack, caught them and was the fastest at the final sprint, crossing the line ahead of Jesus Prado (Mexico) and Bryan Gomez (Colombia).

"I am happy for this triumph and the medal brought for Argentina," said the National champion. "It was difficult after a hard Tour de France, but I was very motivated, the team did a great job, and I managed to finish it off. It wasn’t easy today, but this only makes the win even more special. I want to dedicate this victory to my wife, my daughter, my family, and my friends."
