Katusha-Alpecin has confirmed to its riders that the team will disappear at the end of the year and has given them the freedom to get in contact with other teams.

The Russian-Swiss team started its career in 2009 and 2019 would be its last year in the professional peloton. French newspaper L'Equipe has reported that right in the middle of the Tour de France, the team has talked to its riders to confirm this information and has told them that they are free to try to get contracts somewhere else.

The newspaper informed that the 23 riders of the team were waiting to renew their contracts or be informed of their future and just after the fourth stage of the French grand tour, it finally decided to give the news. It is also reported that the team has told the UCI that it will not extend its license.

This news comes after weeks of rumours of Katusha or Alpecin choosing other teams to continue sponsoring. While some rumours point out future links with Corendon-Circus -the team with which Mathieu van der Poel has a contract until 2022, others hint to a future deal with Israel Cycling Academy, which could then climb to the WorldTour tier.
