Jumbo-Visma's Steven Kruijswijk has set the goal to stand on the final podium of the upcoming Tour de France. The Dutchman has set this objective after testing his shape and considering his past participation in the race.

Although stomach problems forced Kruijswijk to withdraw from the Criterium du Dauphine in the last stage of the race, the Dutchman keeps trusting his shape ahead of the French grand tour. "I don't feel sick, it's not serious, I hope," said the rider to Dutch broadcaster NOS. "It doesn't feel right. It didn't make much sense to pull myself apart just to finish."

Kruijswijk will be at the start point of the Grande Boucle as the leader of Jumbo-Visma and after finishing in the fifth overall position in the 2018 edition of the race, which makes him set higher goals. "The podium in Paris," he stated. "I think it is a realistic goal. Last year I wasn't that far from it. It would be too easy to say: I'm going for a top five again."

"The Tour is, of course, super tough from start to finish. But you notice that especially in the last week the real difference is made. I hope I will succeed. That is why we have opted for this approach, similar to last year's."
