Boels-Dolmans' Jolien D'Hoore has taken the victory in the first stage of the OVO Energy Women's Tour. The Belgian rider was the fastest of the first part of the peloton at the finish line in Stowmarket.

The first stage of the British race was 157.6 kilometres long from Beccles to Stowmarket over a rolling course that included two climbs of the third category, the last one at only six kilometres from the finish. Abby-Mae Parkinson (Drops) launched a strong attack in the last kilometres and created a gap of one minute and a half with the pack.

The rider was reeled back in before the final kilometres and D'Hoore was the fastest to cross the finish line. Amy Pieters, Lisa Brennauer, Roxane Fournier and Marianne Vos completed the top five of the day.

"It was a pretty good day for us, I'm feeling alright, I did Bira two weeks ago and then straight after Thüringen, it's pretty hard but now I'm feeling pretty good and it was pretty hard and I'm happy I could show it today with the stage win," said the Belgian rider.

"The team was really strong, and they brought me actually to the perfect position going into the sprint and they dropped me off at 150 to go and Amy Pieters got second herself, so it really proves that we are a strong team here."

This is the fourth stage victory for the rider of Boels-Dolmans, who also took the lead of the overall classification.
