Remco Evenepoel displayed an impressive performance on the first day of the Hammer Limburg and gave victory of the Hammer Climb to Deceuninck-Quick-Step.

The 19-year-old crossed the finish line in the first place in five out of the nine laps of the event and in the second position in other three occasions. Deceuninck-Quick-Step took 1067 points, while CCC Team finished in the second place with 723 points and Lotto Soudal was in the third position with 687 points.

"The team wanted me to take as many points as possible and I think I did my job well," said Evenepoel after the podium ceremony. "After that small group went clear, I made sure of joining them and scoring points at each sprint.

"With four laps to go, a big group was closing in and there was some hesitation at the front, so I took advantage of this and rode clear, adding to our points tally. It was a good day and I'm proud to help the team get the win and start Hammer Limburg on the right foot."

Hammer Limburg will continue on Saturday with the Hammer Sprint, that will take the teams eight times over a flat course of 12.4 kilometres with a start and finish at the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park.
