Katusha-Alpecin's Dani Navarro was one of the most affected riders at the massive crash of the fourth stage in the Giro d'Italia. The Spaniard had to withdraw from the Italian grand tour.

At around six kilometres from the finish line, Team Ineos' Salvatore Puccio hit the deck and caused a massive crash in the peloton that left Tom Dumoulin practically out of the GC fight and made riders like Simon Yates and Vincenzo Nibali lose some seconds to the race leader Primoz Roglic. But one of the biggest victims of the accident was the Spaniard Navarro.

"Dani Navarro broke his right collarbone as well as three ribs," said a medical update from Katusha-Alpecin. "The ribs perforated the lungs and he suffers a lung contusion with a hemothorax with hemoptysis and pneumothorax at the top and the back of the lung.

"For the moment the rider is stable and he will be monitored carefully in intensive care in the Policlinico Tor Vergata."
