Richard Carapaz (Movistar) has taken his second victory in the Giro d'Italia at the fourth stage of the race. The rider attacked in the last metres and beat his rivals of the select group.

The last kilometres of the stage were very eventful with a crash in the peloton that broke it in two and left a reduced group in front that included Carapaz and overall leader Primoz Roglic. The Ecuadorian launched an attack in the last metres and managed to cross the finish line ahead of fast men like Caleb Ewan.

"Yesterday was a bad day for me and today I started the day with a whole new mentality because I had accepted that I lost a few seconds," said Carapaz after the finish line. "Today I wanted to start from zero and I had that anger inside me and at the end, I looked to get that distance and I went for it."

The rider wanted to avoid a sprint against other riders that are faster than him. "I knew that in the group we had some fast riders and I knew that if all of us arrived together they were going to win," he explained. "

So I looked to create a space with the rest, I saw that there were 600 metres to go and I went for it and look at the result. This is very exciting for me."
