Team Sky's Jonathan Castroviejo has suffered several fractures in consequence of his crash at the third stage of Itzulia-Vuelta al Pais Vasco.

The Spaniard was one of the most affected by a massive crash that happened at seven kilometres from the finish line of the third day at the Spanish race. The rider had to step out of the competition right at the spot and he has been diagnosed with several fractures, including one in the right collarbone.

"Jonathan has a fracture of his right clavicle, as suspected," said Team Sky doctor Iñigo Sarriegui. "We will get a surgical opinion on that and the likelihood is he will need an operation.

"He's got a few smaller fractures too, although it's unlikely they will need any intervention. One of his ribs is fractured, he has a very small fracture on his left wrist, and he has a stable fracture of parts of his vertebrae. He should go home today, after staying in overnight for observation."

Geraint Thomas and Michal Kwiatkowski were also involved in the crash but they didn't suffer serious injuries and could continue in the race.
