The 2024 Road and Para-cycling World Championships are set to be held in Zurich. The Swiss region will apply all the experience it already has organising cycling events.

The UCI had awarded the world championships to the German-speaking region last September and now Swiss Cycling has announced the decision to organise it. The UCI has mentioned that it has high confidence in the ability of the region to organise a high-quality World Championships.

In the last 10 years, Switzerland has successfully organised several UCI World Championships: 2009 Road World Championships (Mendrisio), 2015 Para-cycling Road World Championships (Nottwil) and 2018 Mountain Bike World Championships (Lenzerheide). Also, in 2020 Switzerland will organise the Road Championships of Aigle and Martigny and the Cyclocross World Championships in Dübendorf.

"The 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling World Championships will be the first to combine these two specialities, which represents another step forward for cycling," said the UCI in a press release.
