Elisa Longo Borghini was set to be with her team Trek-Segafredo at the opening race of the Women's WorldTour calendar at Strade Bianche. The rider has had to step down from the line-up due to sickness.

Longo Borghini was meant to start the sixth race of her season after the Santos Women's Tour Down Under, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, the Women's Herald Sun Tour, the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana and the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, but sickness made her change plans.

The rider was announced as part of the roster to tackle Strade Bianche but later on the team confirmed that she can't start in the race. She will be replaced by Australian Lauretta Hanson, who finished in the fourth position of Le Samyn des Dames and enjoys a good form.

"No Strade Bianche for me this year due to the flu, which put half part of my family KO," tweeted Longo Borghini after the team's announcement. "Really sad to miss my favourite race but I'll be cheering for the Trek-Segafredo squad from home."

Trek-Segafredo's line-up for Strade Bianche (9th of March):

Audrey Cordon-Ragot
Lauretta Hanson
Anna Plichta
Ellen van Dijk
Tyler Wiles
Ruth Winder
