Wanty-Groupe Gobert has been invited to take part in the Tour de France for the third time in a row. The Belgian team will be the third team from its country to be at the start line in Brussels.

ASO, the organiser of Tour de France, announced that Wanty-Groupe Gobert and Cofidis got the first two wildcards granted for the 2019 edition of the race. "We won the UCI Europe Tour for the third consecutive year in 2018, so we were hoping for a new participation in the Tour," said the team's General Manager Jean-Francois Bourlart. "This announcement comes at the right time, just before we leave for our training camp in Spain, so we can prepare the season in peace.

"The Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Brussels will be a highlight of our season and in the history of the team. Also, the start of the third stage in Binche, home base of our title sponsor Wanty, will be a big party for cycling."

Rider Guillaume Martin is excited about this third invitation in a row for the team. "This third invitation proves that we have not stolen our place in the Tour de France for the past two years," he commented. "I thank ASO for the trust in us and for announcing our selection as the first two invited teams, that way we can better plan our season with serenity.

"The 2019 edition is very appealing to me. It is similar to that of 2017. I have already looked at it, but with the announcement of this invitation I will certainly study it more thoroughly in the coming days and weeks."
