Astana Women's Team is set to open its season in Australia at the Santos Women's Tour and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. This will be the first time ever for the team in these events.

Although the team has already competed in Australia, this will be the first time it will start at these two races. The squad will be led by the Cuban Arlenis Sierra, who will start right away to try to get the points needed to qualify for the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.

Jeidy Pradera, Elena Pirrone, Carolina Rodriguez, Marie-Soleil Blais and Yareli Salazar complete the roster that will take part in the Australian races. "We are proud for this invitation to race in Australia, both races and growing a lot year after year and we will do our best to honour them," said Astana's sports director Pierangelo Dal Colle. "This will be a very important opportunity for us, there are new riders, we will try to build a nice group, to work on racing as a team and to put down solid bases that will be essential for the rest of the season.

"The big favourites will be without a doubt the local riders who will be well prepared and motivated, but we don't want to stay there and watch them: in December our athletes had the opportunity to train in good weather and are eager to start the season with the right foot."

The Santos Women's Tour will be held from the 10th to the 13th of January and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race will be on the 26th of January.
