Tom Dumoulin of Team Sunweb will ride the 2019 Giro d'Italia and believes a Tour de France participation is likely as well, the team confirmed.

The Dutchman had previously stated that the Tour de France is to be his main goal for the coming season, and that he would only ride one grand tour.

However, with the unveiling of the Tour de France route showing few time trial kilometers while the Giro does include several challenges against the clock, the rider and his team were forced to reconsider their targets.

As such, Dumoulin will ride the Giro d'Italia for the fourth consecutive time with the absolute highlight being his Pink Jersey victory in 2017, when he beat Nairo Quintana, Vincenzo Nibali and Thibaut Pinot in the closing time trial.

Last season, Dumoulin finished second behind Chris Froome and ended up behind the Briton again in the final standings of the Tour de France two months later.
