The organisation of La Vuelta a España has announced that the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands, will host the depart of the race in 2020.

This Dutch city will become the first city in the world to host stages of the three grand tours. In the 2010 Giro d'Italia, the second stage had the finish line in the city, while the 2015 Tour de France had there its Grand Depart.

"It is a party to organise the Salida Oficial (Big start) in 2020," said Utrecht's Mayor Jan van Zanen to Dutch site NU.nl. "Utrecht is a real cycling city and it will be a party for and by our residents."

The 2020 Spanish Grand Tour will kick out with a team time trial in Utrecht, where the first stage will also take place in. The second stage will start in 's-Hertogenbosch and the complete third stage will be in the Province of Noord-Brabant with a start and a finish in Breda.

The provincial and municipal authorities have plans to literally paint the place red, not only along the route of the race but also in other areas. The preparations for the start of the 2020 race will start on the first of January 2019 and the entire organisation is estimated to cost around 14 million Euros.
