The Union Cycliste International has confirmed a four-year ban for Gonzalo Najar after a positive result on a doping test performed at the Vuelta a San Juan.

Najar was the champion of the 2018 edition of the Argentinian race after taking the victory of the Queen Stage. In May of 2018, the rider was notified of an Adverse Analytical Finding of CERA, a third-generation EPO. The sample was taken on the 21st of January of 2018, during the race.

The Argentinian rider, who was National Champion in 2017, will be able to return to competition on the second of May of 2022. It is still uncertain if the rider will lose his title of the Vuelta a San Juan, which would then go to Oscar Sevilla who was in the past linked to the Operacion Puerto case and was fired by T-Mobile in 2006.
