Wout van Aert is set to start conversations with LottoNL-Jumbo later in the month to get to a new agreement on his future.

Van Aert was set to arrive to the Dutch team in 2020, after finishing his contract with Veranda's Willems-Crelan. In the light of his one-sided contract termination with the Belgian team, and after the UCI gave him the green light for looking for a new team for 2019, the rider will start talks with LottoNL-Jumbo.

"Nothing can stand in the way of a quick deal with Jumbo," said Van Aert's manager Jef Van den Bosch to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. "The agreement of the UCI was crucial for that.

"An important nuance that remains is that we will never recover any termination compensation or penalty from his new employer. They should not pay that. That is something between Wout and his ex-team. The ruling of the labour court in the autumn of 2019 does not involve any risk in that respect."

While the case of Van Aert and his old team remains unsolved, he has been allowed to sign for a new team, as long as this is done before the end of 2018.
