Team Sky's Gianni Moscon has taken the victory at the fourth stage of the Tour of Guangxi. The Italian crossed the mountain finish line on his own ahead of Felix Grossschartner and Sergei Chernetski.

The fourth stage of the Chinese race was 152.2 kilometres long and included a steep final climb that was set to make the difference at the General Classification. The climb was 3.2-kilometres long and on it, Moscon showed once again his good shape after winning the Coppa Agostini, the Giro della Toscana and the time trial of the Italian national championships.

"We were all full gas and I saw the other riders were really tired and I thought ‘now is the moment’," said Moscon after the finish line. "I didn’t think about it, it was just a feeling.

"I attacked and straight away had a small gap which I held to the end."

The rider crossed the finish line at five seconds from Bora-hansgrohe's Felix Grossschartner and at eight seconds from Astana's Sergei Chernetski, and he will try to defend his GC lead in the next two stages.

"I think the most important thing was winning today, of course, but tomorrow’s stage is long and pretty hard, with some long climbs," the Italian explained. "I expect a big battle tomorrow but I have a strong team with me."
