The Tour de Suisse will have the Swiss national team as invited for the 2019 edition of the race. A selection of seven riders can be chosen to represent the country at the competition.

Swiss Cycling will be allowed to register a national road team for the Tour de Suisse, having the chance of giving an opportunity to upcoming talents from the country to show themselves at an international level.

The UCI decided to change the rules during the World Championships of Innsbruck, opening the opportunity for the country's team to appear at a WorldTour level competition. "This is very good news," said the Sports Director of the Tour de Suisse, David Loosli.

"We can provide a showcase for young riders not yet under contract with a major team. I’m happy to welcome them on a dream parcours with stage arrivals such as the Gotthard Pass summit."

Swiss national coach Danilo Hondo is excited about this news from the race. "This is a precious opportunity for our young athletes to gain top-level experience in a great race," he commented.
