Rohan Dennis (Australia) has taken the individual time trial title at the World Championships of Innsbruck. The rider continues like this an outstanding season in which he has won every time trial he has competed in.

The men's individual time trial was 52.5 kilometres long between Rattenberg and Innsbruck. The first rider to start the event was Wilco Kelderman (The Netherlands) and he set a time of one hour, seven minutes and 23 seconds.

Later on, strong time trialists like Jan Barta, Maximilian Schachmann, Stefan Küng and Martin Toft Madsen set better times. The next rider to set a competitive time was the New Zealander Patrick Bevin, who completed the route in one hour, five minutes and 35 seconds.

But his stay on the hot seat was finished by Nelson Oliveira (Portugal) who set a time of one hour five minutes and 16 seconds.

Rohan Dennis went down the ramp in the penultimate position and soon it was clear that he was the favourite for the final victory. The Australian, who has won all the time trials he has been in throughout the season, overtook several riders and finished the route in one hour, three minutes and two seconds.

The next rider to finish was Victor Campenaerts (Belgium) and he took the provisional second position of the final classification by stopping the clock at one hour, four minutes and 24 seconds. The champion of the 2018 time trial Tom Dumoulin (The Netherlands) finished at less than one second faster than the Belgian and took the second position of the podium, a result that was disappointing for the Dutchman.

This is the first World title for the three-time Australian time trial champion.
