Gianni Moscon (Team Sky) has been suspended by the Union Cycliste Internationale for the incident that took him out of the Tour de France.

At the start of the 15th stage of the Tour de France, the Italian punched Fortuneo-Samsic's Elie Gesbert. The jury of Commissaires reviewed the images of the incident at the end of the stage and the rider was taken out of the race.

The UCI has also reviewed the case and has taken the decision to suspend the rider of Team Sky. "Mr Moscon accepted his responsibility for the incident and will serve a period of suspension of 5 weeks starting from 8 August to 12 September 2018," said the cycling governing body in a press release.

Moscon would be available to ride the World Championships if he is selected to join the Italian team.

The rider has been involved in other incidents in the past that include racist comments against Kevin Reza and an alleged push against Sebastian Reichenbach at the 2017 Tre Valli Varesine.
