Anthony Roux (Groupama-FDJ) has won the road race at the French national championships. The rider was the strongest at a reduced final sprint.

This is the third French title in a row for the team and the first for Roux. The rider was part of a last kilometre escape that included Anthony Turgis (Cofidis) and Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) who were second and third on the final podium.

"I can't believe it. I'm having a hard time believing it because it's crazy!" said the rider at the end of the race to broadcaster France 3. "I've been so many years riding this race without winning it and I've already done podiums on the race but this is huge."

"The race was well controlled from the beginning and I was a little scared when Alaphilippe came back to the group but today I was certain of my condition. Today everything worked and everything went well."
