Lotto-Soudal's Annelies Dom has won the Belgian road title. The rider was part of a late breakaway and beat Valerie Demey and Sanne Cant at the finish line.

The race started with a breakaway that was reeled back in close to the last lap marker. Soon after, Dom, Kelly Van den Steen, Cant and Sofie De Vuyst managed to break free from the peloton and they were later joined by Valerie Demey, Ann-Sophie Duyck and Kaat Hannes.

A few kilometres later, Dom and De Vuyst accelerated and were followed by Demey and Cant as the others struggled to keep the pace. This quartet fought for the final victory and Dom showed to have the better legs at the end of the day.

"It’s an honour and a wonderful feeling to become Belgian champion," said the rider of Lotto-Soudal at the end of the racing day. "It has been a very busy time for me, as I started studying again and I am in the middle of my exams.

"Last Thursday I felt bad at the Belgian Time Trial Championship because I hadn’t slept much. I didn’t know if I would be good enough today. The past days I rested and slept to get in the best possible condition at the start. This is the result."
