Michael Kolar has announced his retirement from professional cycling as it was confirmed that he will change roles within Bora-hansgrohe.

The 25-year-old did the announcement at the Slovak National Championships and the team confirmed he will take on a new role as part of their sponsorship department. "Over the past year’s I worked really hard and then coming into this season and I tried everything to prepare in the most professional way for the season," he commented.

"However, at some point, I expected a little more, but the results didn’t come. I feel now that I am pretty much at my best level, but this might not be enough to fulfil my own ambitions. I had a chat with Ralph (Denk, team manager) about this, and after a few days, he came back to me, offering a new opportunity. I appreciate his attitude a lot, and I think this a great chance to start something new and finally enjoy life."

Kolar leaves the pro peloton with many good memories. "When I look back, there is nothing to regret," the rider explained. "I am proud of what I achieved, especially the second World Title of Peter in Doha is an unforgettable memory, where I was able to play a key role to success. Now it’s time to say goodbye, the National Championships was my last race as a pro."
