LottoNL-Jumbo and Team Sunweb are considering to stop their riders from starting at the 2018 European Championships that will place in Glasgow.

The main problem of the third edition of the European championships is its proximity to the BinckBank Tour, a WorldTour race that starts just one day after the competition in Scotland. Teams like BMC have already taken the decision of keeping its Belgian riders from taking part in this event.

The Netherlands National coach Thorwald Veneberg stated to the Dutch broadcaster NOS that he is finding problems in trying to build a team with chance of a victory. "I want to go with a leader that has the chance to get a medal," he commented. The coach would like to take someone like Dylan Groenewegen but LottoNL-Jumbo only gave him the choice of taking Jos van Emden and Stef Clement.

Veneberg wants to have a team created for the middle of June. "I am still in discussions with riders of other teams like Niki Terpstra, Sebastian Langeveld and Boy van Poppel," he explained adding that if in a few weeks' time he doesn't have many riders at his disposal, the Netherlands will not participate in the Men's Elite competitions.

On the other side, the women's Dutch team will not have a problem to build a team. Marianne Vos is ready to defend her title and other strong riders like Anna van der Breggen and Chantal Blaak are also available for the competition.

World champion Annemiek van Vleuten won't be able to compete in the championships, because she will be doing altitude training at the time.
