Movistar's Alejandro Valverde has not decided when will be the date of his retirement. The 38-year-old has a contract with the Spanish team until 2019.

This weekend, the rider is back in his home in Murcia to attend an tribute in his honour during which he received the title of Predilect Son of Murcia. "I am in a very good moment at my 38 years of age. Even though the age is there I still feel the eagerness and desire to keep taking triumphs," he said to Spanish news agency EFE.

Valverde doesn't feel that the age is affecting him in any way but he knows his last seasons as a professional rider are at hand. "I'm 38 but I live day by day," he explained.

"I have gotten everything in cycling and I think about my future year by year, knowing that I have a contract with Movistar until 2019 and then we will see if we extend by it one year more or if I leave. It will all depend on how I feel."

The rider felt touched by this tribute and after this, he will be focusing on his next objective. "Now I'm preparing for the Tour de France. We want to give a good performance with the team," the Spaniard commented. "The first part of the season has been very good and we hope to have a second part just as successful."
