Wiggle High5's Kirsten Wild got to celebrate for the second time in a week by winning the opening stage of the ASDA Tour de Yorkshire on Thursday.

The first of two stages was 132.5 kilometers long, with start in Beverly and finish in the city of Doncaster. Although the first half of the stage was a bit hillier, with a categorized climb after 39 kilometers, the second half was almost entirely flat and perfectly suited to a mass sprint.

Attacks were launched in the opening phase, but the peloton preferred to keep things under control for as long as possible. Parkhotel Valkenburg's Nathalie van Gogh and Trek-Drops rider Anna Christian did manage to get a gap but they too were eventually reeled in.

Wild, who won the last stage of the Tour of Chongming Island just day earlier, once again showed her speed by outsprinting Amalie Dideriksen (Boels-Dolmans) and Alice Barnes (Canyon-SRAM) for the victory.

As such, Wild will also take the overall lead ahead of the second and final stage, a 128km course with uphill finish in Ilkley.
