Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) is not going to start in Gent-Wevelgem as was expected. The rider made the announcement on his Facebook page.

The German struggled last weekend during Milano-Sanremo and he was seen getting dropped on the climbs of the Italian race during the first time that he took part in it. Apparently, Kittel hasn't recovered from the efforts of the day.

"Actually, I wanted to start in Gent Wevelgem tomorrow," said the rider through a Facebook message. "But together with the team, I have changed the plan. I will do some more training in Girona and prepare for my appearance in Paris-Roubaix.

"I still haven’t entirely recovered from Milan-Sanremo, where I didn’t eat enough and suffered for the last hour and a half. I just have to give it a bit more time and then I will back to my usual strength."

If Kittel's calendar continues as expected, his next appearances will be in Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of California.
