The third stage of the Volta a Catalunya has been shortened due to extreme weather conditions in the area. The route of the day will be 46 kilometres shorter.

The stage was set to finish in the Ski resort of Vallter 2000, where Tejay Van Garderen and Nairo Quintana have taken the victory in the past. The weather conditions have increased the amount of snow in the area, which also means a high risk of avalanches.

The organisation of the race consulted with the jury of commissaries, as well as representatives of the teams and riders, and came to the conclusion that it was too risky to have the finish of the stage in the resort. Now the end of the day's route will be in Camprodon.

The climbs of the Port d'Oix and Port de Rocabruna were also removed.
